The necessity to use information and communication technology in all schools around South Africa grows enormously by the day. The need to explore the whole world- not forgetting the universe itself- and tapping to any source of knowledge, lies with only a touch of a button; a touch of a button that is in demand but barely available in the South African schools.
Most schools in South Africa, especially in the rural parts of this country, lack the infrastructures and competences which support the use of ICT,not only as a school pedagogy but also as sources of knowledge for the whole surrounding communities. And also, most South African schools in general, and rural schools in particular, have many students who have weak ICT background and consequently their progress at tertiary education level and career choices suffer, especially in the urban career context. Schools in most parts of the rural areas do not have enough classrooms which can be converted as computer labs, and there is not enough network coverage to support the use of internet.
My ideal and goal as a future foundation phase teacher is to create an awareness and encourage -both the government and to private business sectors- to fund the projects of ICT in rural areas by expressing my views in social networks and in other mass media about the inadequacy and necessity of ICT in rural areas.
